Welcome to Year 5
During this term we will be learning about rainforests. We will be looking at where rainforests are in the world, wildlife and plants that can be found in a rainforest and the impact humans have had on rainforests. We will be exploring these through geography, art, music, role play, through KIC theatre, and design and technology. We will also be exploring greenhouses through ICT programming.
In maths, we will be looking at position and direction (including co-ordinates), converting measurements, shapes, angles and place value.
In English we will be exploring the persuasive text genre. We will be looking at how persuasive texts are formed and we will then be creating our own persuasive texts based around our rainforest topic.
In science we will be learning about the life cycles of different animals and plants. We will be exploring how different classifications of living things can have similarities and differences to their life cycles.
In RE we will be learning about the why different religions value having a special place to worship. We will be exploring this through different religions including Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism.
Spellings and homework will be sent home on Thursday and is to be returned for marking the following Tuesday. Please encourage our children to look up any words they do not know in a dictionary. It will also help handwriting, punctuation and sentence structure if your children put their spellings in sentences when practising. We are still collecting Red Teds so please continue reading daily at home with your child and initial their diary to let us know they’ve read.
PE will continue to be on Tuesdays, however, this term it is swimming. Therefore children will need to have their swimming kits with them every Tuesday.
Marsh Voice will continue to visit on Friday afternoons.
Many thanks for your continued support.
