Welcome to Year 5
During this term we will be learning about the Tudors. We will be looking at the Kings and Queens of that era, food, art, music and dance. We will also be researching the Tudors and making our own website pages based on what we have learnt.
In maths, we will be looking at negative numbers, addition and subtraction including problem solving, multiplication and division including long multiplication, decimals as fractions, percentages and perimeter and area.
In English we will be exploring the text 'Treason' by Berlie Doherty. This links with our topic and is about life in the courts of Henry VIII. Through this we will be exploring writing genres such as diary writing and suspense writing.
In science we will be learning about changes over time in humans. We will be exploring the timeline of a human and the changes throughout a lifetime.
In RE we will be learning about the Islamic faith and what it means to be a Muslim.
Spellings and homework will be sent home on Thursday and is to be returned for marking the following Tuesday. Please encourage our children to look up any words they do not know in a dictionary. It will also help handwriting, punctuation and sentence structure if your children put their spellings in sentences when practising. We are still collecting Red Teds so please continue reading daily at home with your child and initial their diary to let us know they’ve read.
PE will continue to be on Tuesdays, however, please ensure your child’s PE kit is at school all week as we often have sporting visitors and may need PE kits on other days. Your child’s PE kit needs to be named and, at this time of year especially, it would be very useful to have tracksuit bottoms, tracksuit top and spare socks as PE will be outside when possible and weather permitting.
Marsh Voice will continue to visit on Friday afternoons.
Many thanks for your continued support.
