Dymchurch Primary School follows the Kent Science Scheme, which ensures good coverage of the different scientific areas.
Children learn about forces, electricity, light, green plants, animals and the environment, materials and their properties and how materials change, habitats, micro-organisms and the Earth, Moon and Sun.
To allow the children to become immersed in their learning we block science into a single week each term. This week will be used to develop non-fiction writing in English, and data handling will run alongside the daily maths lesson. Children explore the scientific language and have time to really delve into the subject matter. Science provides cross curricular opportunities, our art work, for example, will be led by the scientific work we do, and children have a greater depth of understanding through this week long engagement in a subject.
The curriculum has many practical elements and children will have the opportunity to learn through investigation. Children use educational visits and the amazing school grounds, to enhance their learning.
Class overviews of the termly curriculum will provide information as to what each class is covering within that term which are on our website and class pages.
