Welcome to Year 2 Ray class. I am Mr McCoy the class teacher and Miss Fullick is the class teaching assistant. The children have had a very settled and positive start to the new school year and we look forward to a busy and exciting year.
Our topic this year is called 'Where we live' in which we will be looking at locating our country and town on a map, talking about its history and looking at different landmarks in the area.
In Maths we will be focussing on number and place value. We will be using the 100 square to find numbers up to 100 and identify numbers that are 1 more and 1 less as well as 10 more and 10 less.
In Literacy we will be using descriptive language as well as planning and writing a non-chronological report
We will also spend some time reviewing our phonic sounds and high frequency words from Year 1 as well as developing our confidence in using them while reading and writing. The children have their reading books changed daily and are encouraged to read at home every night.
Homework will be given out every friday. It will be in the form of a grid of activities which the children can complete at their own pace and then bring in to show to the teacher. We will also send home phonics or spelling homework every week.
P.E will continue to be a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a named P.E kit in school. Hoop earrings must not be worn in school. Stud earrings must be covered for P.E, and parents are to supply micropore medical tape for this which can be left in their P.E bag.
