Music

At Dymchurch, we ensure our children have meaningful and inclusive music curriculum. We encourage our pupils to perform, appraise and compose a range of music across a number of genres and periods of history.

We currently us Charanga Musical School and were awarded the Music Mark for 2023-2024!

Charanga includes:

  • The UK’s leading Scheme to teach the National Curriculum for Music at KS1–2
  • Week-by-week Schemes of Work with lesson plans, or create and share your own
  • A customisable library of songs, ready-made lessons and resources
  • Support for assessment, special needs education and personalised learning

Much more than a series of schemes, Musical School is an award-winning primary music education programme housed within Charanga’s configurable music teaching and learning platform. The Scheme accesses over 25,000 Charanga resources, creative tools and more to help deliver high-quality curriculum music to our school.  The music curriculum enables all children in our school to meet their musical potential.

All skills and topics covered can be found in the documentation below.

Our Music Intent:

  • We ensure that all teachers delivering the Music Charanga Scheme are appropriately trained and proficient in using the scheme effectively.
  • Teachers make effective use of a wide range of resources provided by the Charanga Scheme to deliver engaging and interactive music lessons.
  • The Music Charanga Scheme is meticulously integrated into our long-term curriculum planning, ensuring progression and continuity in musical learning across all year groups.
  • The scheme is implemented in a way that caters to the diverse learning needs of all our pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • We provide additional enrichment opportunities such as music clubs, performances, and collaborations with external musicians to enhance the overall music provision within the school.
  • Pupils are encouraged to participate in musical events and competitions both within the school and in the wider community to showcase their talents and develop their confidence.
